Make in a Weekend Crochet Afghan
This blanket is made from five skeins of yarn, three were a gift so I only need to get two more skeins.
In every home, there’s an essential element that brings comfort and warmth – the quick crochet afghan. Few things rival the coziness and inviting atmosphere created by a snug blanket in your living space.
The yarn changes color from purple, to green, to brown, to grey. Just so soft and squishy. Therefore, this yarn called for a crochet stitch pattern that was easy and let the loveliness of that yarn shine through.
This is one of the fastest crochet blankets I have made. The family loves that it is a bit stretchy, soft and cozy, and just perfect to snuggle under. It’s one of those simple designs that is so fun to make with gorgeous results.
Whether you’re in search of a full-sized afghan that doesn’t demand an eternity to create, a cozy throw perfect for your Netflix binges, or adorable baby blankets destined to awe any mom-to-be, this crochet pattern delivers.
Make this blanket in different sizes
We have Crochet Guidelines for Standard Bed and Blanket Sizes, which includes estimated yarn and stitch counts for various blanket sizes.
Here are a few suggestions to get you started. This size is wonderful for a lap blanket or throw blanket.
- Toddler Blanket or Lapghan 36 X 48 inches. Starting Chain is about 116-120 chain stitches. Plan on about 1,300 yards of yarn.
- Throw Blanket (small) 48 X 48 – 60 inches. Starting Chain is approximately 175-185 chain stitches. Plan on about 2,600 yards of yarn.
- Throw Blanket (large) 60 X 72 inches. Plan on a starting chain about 190-200 chain stitches. Plan for approximately 4,000 yards of yarn.
Crochet Baby Blanket
This would make a wonderful crochet baby blanket too. It works up so quickly that if you had a last minute gift to handmake, this pattern would get the job done with beautiful results.

Crochet Stitch used in the Throw
This blanket uses simple stitches designed to work up quick and easy. I used a larger hook than what the yarn called for, size N. This helps create a beautiful drape when paired with the soft yarn.
This worked very nicely with the v-stitch that is used throughout the entire pattern. The first row is a bit hard to see; therefore, I had to tug a bit at the chain stitches to be able to see them.
However, once I made it past the first row, this was a breeze to crochet.
Double Crochet V-Stitch
Normally, the V-Stitch has a chain 1 or 2 in the middle. Since this yarn is bulky, I opted not to work any chain stitched between the two double crochet stitches that make up the V-Stitch.
While the yarn is bulky, the blanket itself is not thick. The larger crochet hook paired with the open and lacy stitch makes an afghan with a gorgeous drape that has a soft and squishy feel too.
The perfect crochet pattern to binge watch your favorite TV shows with the repeating pattern. The texture of the finished afghan makes it look fancy, well-done, and unique even though it only uses the double crochet.

8 double crochet stitches for every 4 inches.
The pattern can be adjusted for size by changing the number of stitches when starting the foundational chain. Use multiples of 2 plus 1. That means that the initial crochet chains count should be divisible by 2 and add 1 more chain stitch. For the length of the blanket, just increase or decrease the rows.
Materials
Misty Meadows Yarn Bee Fireside yarn. 5 skeins, or approximately 900 yards. I was gifted 3 skeins and purchased two more at Hobby Lobby.
However, if you do not have a store near you, there is a lion brand homespun yarn that is like this yarn. You can find the Lion Brand yarn online. This pattern would work nicely with different types of yarn.

Pattern Notes
If you change size of your crochet hook or yarn, this changes the gauge. To get the correct blanket size you are looking for, be sure to crochet a small swatch first and measure how many stitches and rows you have in a 4-inch square.
Chain 3 at the beginning of the row counts as a double crochet.
Turn at the end of each row.

DC in the 4th CH from the hook (Counts as 2 DC STs, which completes the first V-Stitch). [SK 1, 2 DC in the next ST]. Repeat between [ ] across. End with 2 DC in the last CH. Turn
Row 2 and Beyond
CH 3 (Counts as a DC), DC between the DC STs in the previous row. (This completes the first V-Stitch of the row). [2 DC between the previous row DC STs]. Repeat between [ ] across. End with 2 DC between the last set of DC in the previous row. Turn
Finishing
Pull the yarn through the last loop. Cut off the excess yarn leaving about a 12-inch tail. Use the yarn needle to weave the yarn back and forth through the stitches. Cut off any hanging yarn tail.
