Crock Pot Brown Sugar Kiwi & Pineapple Ham
Make your next holiday ham with brown sugar and kiwi. use your slow cooker so you can enjoy company and serve a moist and delicious ham.
Servings: 6 Pound Ham
- 1 5-7 pound ham Any ham will work
- 3 Cups brown sugar
- 1/2 Cup Maple Syrup
- 1 20 Oz. Can pineapple can be crushed or chunks (do NOT drain)
- 3 kiwi peel the skin and cut pin pieces
- 2 Cups Ham Juice
- 2 Cups water
- 4 TBL corn starch
- 1/4 Cup water
Place the ham in the crock pot. I like to put the brown sugar and maple syrup on top. I add the juice from the pineapple at this time too. Do not add the pineapple pieces yet. It will slide down the edges of the ham and some will stay on top. That is fine as it will add more flavor throughout the ham. Cover and turn on high temperature. Cook on high 3 hours.
After about 3 hours, I use a spoon to baste the ham for a few minutes, then add the pineapple and the kiwi. put the lid on and cook on high for another 2 hours.
Remove the ham and let it rest on a large cutting board while you make the glaze.
In a kettle on the stove, use 2 cups of the ham juice and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil. It is okay to have the pineapple and kiwi pieces in this juice...in fact, even better.
While the juice is coming to a boil, make the thickener. In a glass with 1/4 cup of water, dissolve 4 Tablespoons of corn starch.
One the juice is boiling, use a whisk or a fork to stir constantly while you add the corn starch mixture. Cook a few minutes until the glaze thickens. Turn off heat.
I hope that you enjoy making this easy recipe for your family gathering and have many compliments. Hint, the leftovers are so good too!
Hint: SAVE the juice for later. I freeze it and use it in recipes throughout the year. Same with any ham pieces that come off closer to the bone. Makes great soups, etc.
