Many years ago, I made cinnamon salt dough ornaments with my daughter. She was so young; she barely remembers it. However, every year when we take them out of the Holiday decorations, we are greeted by that cinnamon smell. This is an Ornament Not Food.
Equipment
Half Sheet Pan
Silicone Spoon
Glass Mixing Bowl
Cookie Scoop
Materials
1Cup Flour
1/2CupSalt
1/2CupWater
2TablespoonsCinnamon
Baking Sheet
Cookie Cutters
Ribbon to hang ornaments
Straw or something else to poke holes in ornaments prior to baking.
Estimated Cost $6.50
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 250degrees Fahrenheit. Combine all ingredients, you might have to use your hands to get the last bit of the flour incorporated into the water.
Make a ball of dough and roll to about ¼ inch thick. I lightly floured the board to keep the dough from sticking.
Cut out the dough into shapes using cookie cutters. Use all the dough; keep rolling out the small scraps of dough making the ornaments until all the dough is gone.
Use the straw to make the hole for hanging. What happensis that the dough gets pushed up inside the straw and you are left with a cleanhole. You can quickly move to the next ornament and make the next hole.
Place the ornaments on a cookie sheet that has either parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet on it. Bake at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for 2 ½ hours.
Put a piece of ribbon or stringthrough the hole and hang or give as a gift.
