Frost Blossom Boot Cuffs Crochet Pattern

These Frost Blossom Boot Cuffs are designed to add just a touch of texture and color. They peek out above your boots for a layered look that feels both warm and put together.

This design is part of our Frost Blossom Collection, a special collaboration between my daughter Casey and me. After creating larger pieces like the blanket and scarf, we wanted to include a quick and satisfying project that still carried the same signature texture and color story.

These boot cuffs combine a simple, classic base with a folded cuff worked in the lemon peel stitch, giving them that beautiful “frost meets bloom” look. They’re easy to wear, easy to style, and a fun way to add a handmade touch to your everyday outfits.

Whether you’re making them for yourself or as a thoughtful gift, this is a project that comes together quickly and is sure to be worn all season long.

Frost Blossom Boot Cuffs Crochet Pattern

Pattern Overview

The boot cuffs are worked flat in rows and then seamed to create a comfortable, stretchy fit around the leg. The lower portion features a simple stitch pattern for a clean, classic look. While the top section, designed to fold over the boot, is worked in the lemon peel stitch for added texture and visual interest.

This combination keeps the pattern approachable while still giving you that signature Frost Blossom detail right where it shows.

They are designed to sit comfortably at the top of your boots, adding warmth without bulk and creating a layered, cozy look.

Lemon Peel Stitch

At the center of the folded cuff design is the simple but satisfying lemon peel stitch. This stitch is created by alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches, resulting in a beautifully textured fabric that looks much more intricate than it actually is.

If you’ve never worked it before, you’re in for a treat. It has a lovely rhythmic flow that makes this pattern relaxing and beginner friendly while still producing a rich, textured look. Because it uses only basic stitches, it’s a great choice for crocheters who are ready to move beyond the basics while still keeping things simple.

When worked in strict black and white, this stitch creates the classic houndstooth effect. But by using variegated yarns, it takes on a completely different personality. The colors softly blend and shift, creating that signature “frost meets bloom” look we love so much.

Yarn Choices

For the boot cuffs, we used Red Heart Bitty Stripes in Crayon Box and Moonbeam. These yarns work beautifully together, adding softness, depth, and gentle color variation. Especially in the folded cuff where the texture really stands out.

Because the yarn is washable and dryable, these boot cuffs are not only stylish but also practical for everyday wear.

Gauge

Approximately 12 stitches and 10 rows = 4″ x 4″

For accurate size, check your gauge as your crochet stitches may be looser or tighter than mine.

Size

When lying flat, 7 inches wide with 3 inches inside the boot and 4 inches folded over the boot x 16 inches long.

Changing the size

While this pattern comes in just one size, it is easy to change the size to fit your leg. Measure your leg where you want the boot cuff to sit.

To adjust the length, (the fit around your leg), simply adjust your chains by any odd number of chains. Adjust the portion that sits inside the boot, simply crochet more or fewer rows of single crochet.

To adjust the width of the part that is folded over the outside of the boot, continue adding rows of the lemon peel stitch.

Crochet Stitches

Chain Stitch (CH ST)

Begin the chain stitch by making a slip knot on the crochet hook. Leave about a 5-inch tail on the yarn. This will be weaved in later.

Next snug up the yarn loop that is on the crochet hook; while it should be firm, it should also be loose enough to slide on the hook with ease.

Keeping the loop on the hook, wrap the yarn over the crochet hook from back to front. Draw the yarn through the loop. You’ve just made a chain stitch. Continue yarning over and drawing the yarn through the loop on the hook to make more chain stitches.

Double Crochet (DC)

Yarn over, insert the hook through both loops and pull up a loop. Next, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook. Lastly, yarn over again and pull through the last two loops on the hook.

Pattern Notes

Pattern is written in US crochet terminology.

Since this pattern is reversible, there isn’t a right side and wrong side.

For this pattern, you’ll be working the boot cuff flat and joining it at the end.

This pattern uses the lemon peel stitch and the single crochet stitch.

This pattern is written to carry the yarn up the side of the pattern for the lemon peel stitch.

Helpful Tips for Beginners

Alternating Stitches

You’ll always be alternating double crochet and single crochet stitches throughout this pattern.

Here’s the simple rule of thumb:

  • If the stitch below is a double crochet, work a single crochet into it.
  • If the stitch below is a single crochet, work a double crochet into it.

This alternating pattern gives you the signature lemon peel-like texture.

Use a Stitch Marker

Because this stitch uses alternating heights, the last stitch can blend in. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of the row. This prevents accidental increases or decreases that throw off your count.

Counting Made Easy

Starting with an odd number of chains ensures an even stitch count, which keeps the lemon peel pattern aligned.

Make sure to watch the video tutorials to see how to crochet the lemon peel stitch and how to change yarn color. They are located after the written directions.

Crochet Pattern

Begin with the Band. The part that is inside the boot.

Using Color B: Moonbeam, start by making a slip knot and adding the loop on the hook.

For this pattern I worked a chain of 49 stitches.

Row 1

SC in the 2nd CH from the hook and each ST across. Turn (48 STs)

Rows 2-10

CH 1 (Does not count as a ST). SC in the first ST and each ST across. Turn (48 STs)

Outside Boot Cuff

Begin working on the portion of the boot cuff that is folded over and showing on the outside of the boot.

Row 1

Continue using yarn color B: Moonbeam.

CH 1, (Does not count as a ST).  SC in the first ST. DC in next ST. [SC in the next ST, DC in the next ST].  Repeat across between [ ]. End with a DC in the last St.  Turn (48 STs)

Do not cut your yarn.

Row 2

Switch yarn color A: Crayon Box.

Pull the new yarn color through the loop on the hook.

CH 1 (Does not count as a ST). SC in the first DC ST, DC in the SC ST. [SC in the next ST, DC in the next ST]. Repeat across between [ ]. End with a DC in the last ST.

Add a stitch marker. No Turn

Row 3

Change back to yarn color B

Now you’ll see the unused color strand (Color A) waiting at the other end.
CH 1 (Does not count as a ST). DC in the first SC ST, SC in the DC ST. [DC in the next ST, SC in the next ST]. Repeat across between [ ]. End with a SC in the last ST.  Turn

Row 4

Change back to yarn color A

CH 1 (Does not count as a ST). DC in the first SC ST, SC in the DC ST. [DC in the next ST, SC in the next ST]. Repeat across between [ ]. End with a SC in the last ST.  No Turn

Row 5

Change back to yarn color B

CH 1 (Does not count as a ST). SC in the first DC ST, DC in the SC ST. [SC in the next ST, DC in the next ST]. Repeat across between [ ]. End with a DC in the last ST.  Turn

Row 6

Change back to yarn color A

CH 1 (Does not count as a ST). SC in the first DC ST, DC in the SC ST. [SC in the next ST, DC in the next ST]. Repeat across between [ ]. End with a DC in the last ST.  No Turn

Rows 7 through 12

Continue repeating rows 3-6 until desired length.

Sewing the Ends Together

When you’re done, leave a long tail. About 15-20 inches. You will be using this to sew the ends together. This will create a “tube” shape.

Seaming Instructions

Fold the boot cuff in half matching the short ends together.

Use the long yarn tail and yarn needle to sew the ends together. Starting on one end, insert the needle through the loops on the end of each side. Move the needle over a little, insert it back through the layers and out the other end. Continue working back and forth weaving the yarn through the layers.

When done, weave in the yarn ends and cut off the excess yarn.
