The This embroidered flour sack towel features a cute dog. This whimsical needle work on this towel notes that it is wash day. I am sure that the dog is not thrilled that it is wash day! Our little Corgi will go hide under the table when we say “lets take a bath.”
This design is an iron-on transfer from my grandmother’s stash. The drawing is on transfer paper. It’s easy to place on top of the fabric and place a thin towel over the top. Just hold the hot iron on for a minute without moving. The design should be transferred onto the fabric and you can create the look you want by using your embroidery floss colors and stitches of your choosing.

This pattern is stamped on a cotton flour sack towel. It is not a cross stitch pattern, but rather a running stitch. There is enough detail to show the cute picture. This is an easy pattern to work. You can start and stop without a chart to help you figure out where you are. I also like to get embroidery kits. You can complete them quickly. Let someone else do the planning for you.
These whimsical towels are cute and useful. Handmade items are so often treasured by the person receiving the gift.

I know we make these so they can be used. However, I find that I like to display them for quite a while before using them.
After completing the embroidery, make sure you press it with an iron that can steam. I use another cotton towel on the ironing board. Lay that down first, then put the embroidered towel on top of that with the stitching side down. Move your iron around every few seconds with the steam on. This will help create a crisp towel and make the stitches pop. It will look lovely hanging on display.

There are so many ways to create amazing and unique handmade pieces. The possibilities are endless, there are projects for embroidery, crewel, needle punch work, cross stitch, and counted cross stitch just to name a few. Sewing project do not have to be something that you hand on your wall. Once you learn a few stitches used in embroidery, you can create a unique design. A kit is a great way to start learning stitches as there are always directions on how to complete the unique stitches in the piece.

Love iron-on transfers and I have some from my grandmothers stash yet. I have many of these and like to go through them when I am in the mood to embroider. It gives me ideas.
There is a wide-variety of iron-on transfers. Cross-stitch dishes iron-on transfers are great for a beginner.
While you can purchase all of your embroidery supplies separately, if you are new to embroidery, having a starter kit helps assure that you have what you need to complete your projects with the correct tools.
All you have to do is start embroidering and creating your own cute project. A mini-pre stamped cross stitch. Given enough coffee…. it is a cute project.
