An easy continuous granny square baby blanket made with soft cotton yarn. Perfect for stroller rides, car seats, and cozy snuggles.
This is a simple and enjoyable pattern that’s perfect for beginners. It’s a great project for making a crochet baby blanket, car seat blanket, crib blanket, throw, or lapghan.
It’s a great way to learn how to crochet a classic granny square blanket. The pattern includes clear, step-by-step written instructions, and if you ever feel unsure or need a little extra guidance, there’s a full video tutorial that walks you through every step of making your blanket.

Weekend Crochet Project
If you’re looking for a quick and satisfying blanket project, you’ll love how fast this one comes together. I made this in a single weekend! After the first few rounds, the pattern repeats in a simple, predictable way, making it a perfect mindless and relaxing crochet project.
Great Pattern for Using Up Your Yarn Stash
Sometimes the best projects come from the yarn you already have on hand. This is one of those projects where you don’t need to know exactly how much yarn you’ll need ahead of time.
After finishing another blanket, I had two skeins of this beautiful cotton yarn left over and couldn’t bear to let them sit in my stash waiting for the “perfect” project. Instead, I turned them into something sweet and useful.
This Sweet Berry Granny Square Baby Blanket worked up beautifully using a simple continuous granny square pattern, and the soft cotton yarn feels wonderful against a baby’s delicate skin.
The finished blanket is just the right size for a stroller or car seat, making it a cozy companion for little outings. Projects like this are one of my favorite ways to use leftover yarn and create something practical and handmade for the next generation.
Quick Project Details
Construction
This blanket is worked in a continuous granny square from the center outward. Since the yarn is variegated, there is no need to change yarn until the skein runs out. Add a simple decorative border to finish the blanket. This free pattern comes with a video tutorial!
Border Details
The border is also very easy. Unlike many blanket borders where you must guess where to “crochet evenly down the sides,” this border is worked directly into the chain spaces around the blanket. This makes it simple and beginner friendly.
If you can Single Crochet, Double Crochet, and Single Crochet in each chain space, then work a Chain 1 over each granny cluster, you can complete the border.
This creates a simple, delicate edging that frames the blanket beautifully.

What Is a Continuous Granny Square Blanket?
A Continuous Granny Square Blanket is made by working one large square outward from the center, round by round, rather than creating multiple small squares and sewing them together. This method gives you the classic granny square look with clusters of double crochets, but it grows seamlessly into a full-sized blanket without any piecing.
- Practice the Granny Stitch: The clusters of 3 double crochets are the foundation of this blanket, so make sure you’re comfortable with the technique.
- Mindless Crochet: This blanket is perfect for relaxing projects, great for TV time, travel, or quiet afternoons.
- Customization: You can easily adjust the size by adding or reducing the number of rounds.
You can create a beautiful continuous granny square blanket that’s perfect for gifting, decorating, or cozying up at home.

Pattern Notes
Written in US Crochet Terminology.
This pattern is worked in the round.
Chain 3 counts as the first double crochet.
The corner space of a granny square normally has a ch-2 space or a ch-3 space between the two granny stitch clusters. This blanket uses just a ch-1 space between. I was looking for a smaller corner hole.
This blanket uses yarn that changes to different colors on its own. If you want to change colors each round, I recommend doing that in the corners where you start each round. Join the new yarn before working the starting chain-3 in the corner space.
To eliminate the seam that is often visible in granny squares, you will be working slip stitches to the corner to begin each round. This creates a lovely granny square with a finished look and no seam.
I did not turn each round. However, if you find that your square starts to get wonky and looks askew, turning your work after each round fixes that.
You can find video tutorials of this pattern below the written pattern.

Crochet Stitches
Double Crochet (DC). Yarn over, insert hook through both loops and pull up a loop. Next, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook. Lastly, yarn over again and pull through the last two loops on the hook.
Granny Cluster, or shell. A granny cluster is a term for a special crochet stitch that consists of a set of 3 double crochet stitches, all worked into one stitch or space. The clusters are then separated from one another with chain stitches.
Single Crochet (SC). Insert the hook, pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through the two loops on the hook.
