Ultimate Creamy Salad Dressing

This ultimate creamy salad dressing is a simple and delicious family recipe that has been passed down from my grandmother. My daughter makes it for her family now. This is one of those recipes that is so easy and tasty, I am guessing it will be made for years to come.

It is very easy to make and I think it adds to the freshness of the salad ingredients. This creamy salad dressing just tastes light and does not take away from the freshness of the salad ingredients.

I have been making this recipe for well over 20 years.

It stores very well in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks in a covered container. I like to store it in something that pours. This Salad Dressing container has a whisk, which allows the dressing to be mixed while still in the container. It is still rather thick, if you want to have it thinner, I would recommend adding more milk. However, if you are making this for the first time, I would suggest following the recipe, tasting it and checking the consistency before making any changes to it to make it your own. You never know, you might like it just the way we do.

When making your salad, use the ingredients that you like the best. Sometimes I put all the ingredients in one large bowl and let people serve themselves and put the salad dressing on. Other times, I make individual salads putting ingredients in each salad bowl just the way the family likes it; one may not want shredded cheese, one may not want tomatoes…you get the idea.

This Dressing is very versatile

You could use this dressing to make coleslaw. That is another family favorite. When doing that, I use a bit less milk. Make the coleslaw approximately one hour before you plan on serving. This will give the cabbage a bit of time to start to wilt.

Believe me, your guests will love eating whatever you pair with this delicious dressing.

Serve this dressing over a seven-layer salad.

This type of salad is made is a fancy serving bowl or 9 X 13 cake pan. Beginning with a layer of lettuce, follow up with six more layers of salad items. This could be tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, sweet peas, celery, cheese, black olives, or hard-boiled eggs. Just before serving, pour on the dressing. Sprinkle on some Croutons. Delicious.

Notes

Taste for salt, pepper, sugar preference and check for the consistency you like. If you like it thinner, add more milk, but then you will have to probably add more sugar, salt, and pepper.
