Who Invented the Golden Cadillac?
The golden Cadillac was said to be invented by Bartender Frank Klein when he invented the golden-hued cocktail by combining Galliano with crème de cacao and heavy cream. (reference)
Golden Cadillac Ingredients
This after dinner dessert drink has just three ingredients and takes just minutes to make. Often, we enjoy our dessert beverage at one of our local supper clubs. This grown-up sundae is another one to try with a mix of Galliano, Crème de Cacao and vanilla ice cream.
Crème de Cacao. What is Creme de Cacao?
This is a chocolate flavored liqueur with hints of vanilla. This comes in dark and clear.
Some good substitutes for crème de cacao include:
You can substitute “clear” creme de cacao for the regular dark creme de cacao. Except for the coloring, they are interchangeable.
- 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup for one shot glass of the crème de cacao.
- Other flavor variations in place of the crème de cacao are coffee, hazelnut, or almond liqueur.
- For a non-alcohol substitute use 3 tablespoons water and 3/4 teaspoon of chocolate extract
Galliano. What Is Galliano L’Autentico Liqueur
Galliano is an Italian herbal liqueur that is golden in color and comes in a beautiful, tall and slender bottle. The taste of this liqueur has a vanilla and anise flavor with subtle citrus notes. Galliano includes 30 herbs, spices, and plant extracts used to make this? This liqueur is a retro drink popular in 1970s. Popular drinks that use this liqueur are the Harvey Wall banger and golden Cadillac.
A Non-Alcoholic Substitute for Galliano L’Autentico Liqueur
If you are not able to find this liqueur, I would use a premium-quality vanilla liqueur would be a good substitute for Galliano.
Drink Galliano to Aid Digestion. I was not aware of this helpful hint until I started to research this a bit more. Some people drink Galliano straight after dinner to aid digestion. Some folks enjoy this served over ice and topped with seltzer and clear sodas. One of its more surprising pairings is root beer. (reference)
Ice Cream or heavy cream
Make this after dinner drink with ice cream or heavy cream. If using ice cream add the ingredients to a blender and blend. By us, we tend to see this served as an ice cream after dinner dessert drink.
If using the heavy cream, it can be poured over ice or if you have cold ingredients, just mix and serve.
If you prefer to enjoy this drink using heavy cream, just substitute the heavy cream for the ice cream. Add the Galliano, creme de cacao and heavy cream to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously to combine.
Another option that it is ready fun and delicious is to blend the ingredients. The rich cream paired with the liqueurs all blended with the ice is pure heaven in a glass.
