Directions: How to Crochet the Single Crochet Grit Stitch Tutorial
Skill Level
Beginner
If you can crochet the chain stitch and single crochet, you have the necessary skills to work this stitch pattern.
Gauge
The gauge will depend on the yarn weight and size hook used.
Project Size
The project you make will depend on the starting chain stitches and the number of rows crocheted.
To change the size of the project use multiples of 2 + 1 for the beginning chain.
Materials
To get started, gather the following materials:
Yarn of your choice (medium weight yarn works well)
Crochet hook (appropriate size for your chosen yarn)
Scissors
Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
Abbreviations
CH = Chain
SC = Single Crochet
SK = Skip
ST = Stitch
[ ] = Repeat Between
Pattern Notes
Pattern is written in US terms.
Turn at the end of each row.
There are two options of starting this pattern for row 1.
Option 1. Place the 1st ST in the 2nd CH from the hook. If you choose to use this option, start your beginning chain with an even stitch count.
Option 2. The second option is detailed in the pattern below. Start 1st ST in the 3rd CH as detailed below because it gives me a nicer place to insert the hook for the last stitch when working row 2. Otherwise, that area always seems a bit tight on the first pass. The starting chain for this option is 2 + 1.
Note on the turning chain. The turning CH 1 can be worked at the end of the row before turning or at the beginning of the row when starting the row. It is your preference.
Crochet Pattern
Begin
Work the foundation chain in multiples of 2 + 1.
Row 1
Starting in the 3rd CH from the hook, work 1 SC. [SK next chain, work 2 SC into the next stitch]. Repeat between [ ] across the row ending with 1 SC worked into the last Chain ST. Turn
Row 2
CH 1. In the first stitch, work 1 SC. [SK 1 SC, work 2 SC into the next SC]. Repeat between [ ] across the row. End with 1 SC worked into the last SC.
Rows 3 and Beyond
Repeat row 2 until you have reached your desired length.
