Quick & Easy Fluffy Crochet Throw Blanket (Plush and Comfy)

This fluffy crochet throw blanket feels like a soft little cloud. I made this one using a super plush yarn and a simple linen stitch that creates a thick, cozy fabric perfect for curling up on the couch after a long day.

It works up quickly, which makes it a great project when you want something comforting and satisfying without weeks of counting stitches.

I loved working on this easy crochet blanket pattern that still feels extra luxurious. The fluffy yarn gives it that plush, store-bought look, but it’s still handmade with love, which makes it perfect for gifting or keeping all to yourself. It’s cozy enough to be a couch throw, but soft enough to double as a baby blanket if you adjust the size.

This pattern is beginner friendly, with a simple repeat that’s easy to memorize once you get going.

The only small challenge is that fluffy yarn can make stitches a little harder to see. If you’ve been wanting to try plush yarn but felt a little intimidated, this is a wonderful place to start.

Blanket Sizes

This fluffy crochet throw blanket pattern includes four suggested sizes, making it easy to customize for your space or gifting needs. The size shown in the photos is the Small Throw Blanket, but the pattern works just as beautifully in larger sizes for extra cozy coverage.

  • Small Throw Blanket: 42 x 46 inches (shown)
  • Medium Throw Blanket: 50 x 50 inches
  • Large Throw Blanket: 60 x 60 inches
  • X-Large Blanket: 70 x 70 inches

You can also easily adjust the size by adding or subtracting starting chains and rows to create a custom blanket that fits your needs.

🧶 Yarn Choice: Lion Brand Go For Fleece

Lion Brand Go For Fleece has a sherpa-style texture, giving this crochet blanket a soft, fleece-like feel similar to store-bought sherpa throws.

For this fluffy crochet throw blanket, I used two soft, cozy colors: Cream and Seafoam. This yarn is a super bulky #7 weight, made from 100% polyester, and it creates the most plush, luxurious fabric when worked up.

One of the things I love most about crocheting with Go For Fleece is how incredibly soft it feels in your hands while you work. The fluffy texture makes this project feel indulgent from the very first row. Creating a cozy, high-end finish.

Because this is a fluffy yarn, the stitches can be a little harder to see compared to smoother yarns. That said, the simple linen stitch works beautifully with this yarn and creates a thick, cozy fabric without complicated stitch work.

I love the final look of each yarn peaking throughout the blanket.

If you’re newer to plush yarn, I recommend crocheting by feel and using stitch markers.

About the Linen Stitch & Working with Plush Yarn

This fluffy crochet throw blanket is made using the linen stitch. A simple and beginner-friendly stitch pattern that works beautifully with plush yarn. The linen stitch creates a flexible, cozy fabric and allows the texture of the yarn to really shine without complicated stitch work.

Because this pattern uses a super bulky plush yarn, the stitches can be a little harder to see, especially in the first row. When working into the starting chain, you may need to gently tug the chain stitches apart to clearly see where to place your hook.

Once the first row is complete, the pattern becomes much easier. The crochet stitches are worked into chain spaces rather than individual stitches, which makes it simple to continue. Even with fluffy yarn where stitch definition is softer.

Pattern Notes

Written in US Terms.

This blanket uses the linen stitch, which is easy to repeat and works especially well with plush yarn. The first row may take a little extra patience as you work into the starting chain, but once you’re crocheting into chain spaces, the pattern becomes very simple and relaxing.

Helpful Video Tutorial

If you’re new to the linen stitch or would like a visual refresher, I’ve included a video tutorial that shows how to crochet this stitch using a medium-weight yarn, making the stitches easy to see. The same stitch pattern is used in this blanket, so you can follow along confidently before switching to plush yarn.

Color Changes & Yarn Ends

Color changes are made at the end of each row. When changing colors, join the new yarn using a secure square knot. With this plush sherpa-style yarn, the knot holds very securely.

After tightening the knot, trim the yarn tails to approximately ¼ inch. Because of the thickness and texture of the yarn — and the addition of the border — the yarn ends are fully concealed and not visible in the finished blanket.

If you prefer, you may leave longer tails and weave them in; however, this is not required for this pattern when using plush polyester yarn.

Always give your knot a firm tug to ensure it is secure before trimming.

Crochet Stitches

Chain Stitch (CH ST)

Begin the chain stitch by making a slip knot on the crochet hook. Leave about a 5-inch tail on the yarn. This will be weaved in later.

Next snug up the yarn loop that is on the crochet hook; while it should be firm, it should also be loose enough to slide on the hook with ease.

Keeping the loop on the hook, wrap the yarn over the crochet hook from back to front. Draw the yarn through the loop. You’ve just made a chain stitch. Continue yarning over and drawing the yarn through the loop on the hook to make more chain stitches.

Single Crochet (SC)

Insert the hook, pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through the two loops on the hook.

Begin Crochet Pattern

Place a slip knot on your crochet hook.

Begin by making chain stitches.

  • Small Throw Blanket: Chain 60 (Shown)
  • Medium Throw Blanket: Chain 72
  • Large Throw Blanket: Chain 88
  • X-Large Blanket: Chain 102

Row 1

SC into 4th CH from hook, [Ch 1, Skip 1 CH, SC in next SP. Repeat from] repeat between [ ] to last CH where you end with a SC, turn.

Row 2

CH 2 (Doesn’t count as a ST). SC in first CH-1 SP in previous row (Note: not in the stitch itself, but in the space that was created by the CH. To do this, insert your hook in the space, yarn over and pull through the yarn and complete your SC). [CH 1, Skip 1 ST, SC in next SP]. Repeat between [ ] across to last CH where you end with a SC, turn.

Row 3 and Beyond

Continue working Row 2 until your desired length.

I started and ended this blanket with the seafoam yarn color. That way, the cream colored border will stand out better.

  • Small Throw Blanket: 51 rows (Shown)
  • Medium Throw Blanket: 55 rows
  • Large Throw Blanket: 67 rows
  • X-Large Blanket: 79 rows

Finishing

Use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends on the back side of the work. I like to weave back and forth 3 to 5 times. Cut off the excess yarn.

CH 1 (Doesn’t count as a ST). Work 1 SC between each ST and each row around with 2 SC in the corners. End the round with a SL ST into the first SC.

Round 2

CH 1 (Doesn’t count as a ST). Work 1 SC between each ST around with 3 SC in the corners. End the round with a SL ST into the first SC.

Note. I worked this round between the stitches as it is much easier to see where to place your crochet stitches.
