Asymmetrical Crochet Shawl
This asymmetrical shawl is worked on the bias where one side continues to grow while the other side stays straight. If you are an advanced beginner, I think that you would have no problem mastering this lovely crochet pattern.
All-Season Shawl and Scarf
Wear this beautiful all-season shawl as a scarf too. It has a beautiful drape and texture. The puff stitches paired with the delicate yarn give this wearable a gorgeous overall look and texture.
Because there is little bulk in this shawl, it can be rolled or wrapped in a variety of styles with ease. It is so flowy and luxurious to wear.
It is based on a deceivingly simple design of soft and squishy puff stitches that really make the colors stand out.
Saint Patrick’s Day Lucky Crochet Shawl
St. Paddy’s Day will soon be upon us and I wish everyone good luck in this New Year. This will be a perfect accessory showing off your green side. When thinking about naming this Shawl, Serendipity landed at the top of the list. It is the unplanned good luck some people have. This just seemed to fit together.
Highlighting the Colors in the Yarn Cake
When starting a yarn cake, a person can begin from the inside or the outside. This yarn cake has colors of green near the center, which lead into colors of red, and end with black.
Whichever color is started with, the crochet shawl/scarf will tend to take on more of that color as there will be a greater number of rows of the beginning colors. As you work toward the end of the pattern, the rows are longer and therefore, there are less rows if the ending colors.
With that said, I wanted the green to be a bit more highlighted in this shawl, so I began this project with the green.
Learn How to Crochet the Puff Stitch
This pattern follows a simple repeat of puff stitches and chain stitches. Once you complete a few rows of stitches, this is a crochet pattern that is easily memorized. Simply perfect for watching your favorite television show and relaxing with the family.
I will provide details on how to complete the puff stitch; however, it is important to note that the puff stitch can be made in any size you want. Therefore, you might see another designer’s pattern explain a different number of yarn wraps around the hook. That is okay, just know that there are other options beyond the one I am using in this crochet pattern.
Completing the puff stitch.
- Step 1: Yarn over and insert the hook in the stitch where the puff stitch will be placed. Yarn over and pull through a loop. There are now three loops on the hook.
- Step 2: Yarn over again and insert the hook in the same stitch area that you previously inserted your hook. Yarn over and pull through a loop. There are now five loops on the hook.
- Step 3: Repeat step two twice more. You will have nine loops on the hook. Yarn over one more time and pull the yarn through all nine loops on the hook.
- Finishing: Yarn over one more time and pull through the one loop on the hook to complete the puff stitch.
Remember you can increase or decrease the loops on the hook as you need for future crochet projects. Make it puffier by adding loops, decrease the puffiness by reducing the number of loops on the hook.

Pattern Notes
The yarn cake I used changed colors for me. Therefore, I just had the beginning and ending yarn to weave in. However, if you prefer to change the colors on your own, complete the final yarn over of the last double crochet of the row with the new color. This will allow the new yarn color to be incorporated nicely.
Increases in the puff stitch take place on the even rows. Therefore, every other row, the puff stitch increases by 1 stitch.
Rows 4 and 5 are repeated throughout this shawl pattern.
Chain 3 at the beginning of each row counts as a double crochet throughout the pattern.
Turn at the end of each row.

Advanced Beginner or Intermediate level crochet pattern
Once you are familiar with the beginner friendly stitches such as the chain stitch, single crochet, slip stitch and double crochet, you will be ready to adventure on the more complicated stitches, like the puff stitch.
Gauge
26 single crochet to every 4 inches. However, gauge is not critical in this crochet pattern as the width and length continue to grow with each row. Just stop at the desired size.

56 inches long X 39 ½ inches wide
Materials
Color number 18 Hobbi Twister yarn cake. I used 1 yarn cake which was 1093 yards. There was just a bit left. If you are not able to obtain the yarn locally, you can purchase it here. However, any number 2 weight yarn would work well for this pattern. Red Heart It’s a Wrap would work well.

CH 3 (counts as DC), work a PS in the first CH 1 SP. CH 1, SK 1 PS, work a PS into the CH 1 SP, CH 1, work a DC in the previous row top CH 3 ST. Turn (2 PS).
Row 4
CH 3 (counts as DC), work a PS in the first CH 1 SP. [CH 1, SK 1 PS, work 1 PS in next CH 1 SP]. Repeat between [ ] across. End with (PS, CH 1, DC) in the previous row top CH 3 ST. Turn (3 PS).
