Delicate and Delicious Easy Homemade Biscuits
The only thing that I have found with these delicate fluffy biscuits is that they crumble when I try and slice through them. Especially when they are still warm. Therefore, my recommendation is to use your hands to separate them. No worries, they are so scrumptious.
How to Make 2-Ingredient Biscuits
Preheat the oven to 450°F and line a sheet pan with parchment paper. You can also use a large ungreased cast iron skillet for baking.
In a large bowl, mix together the self-rising flour and whole-milk Greek yogurt just until a soft dough forms. You will no longer be able to see the flour. Pro Tip. For flaky biscuits make sure not to overmix the dough. You can also swap out the Greek yogurt for heavy cream.
Next you have two options for making your biscuits.
Option 1. Make drop biscuits. Scoop out ¼ cup of batter onto the baking sheet using a large cookie scoop.
Option 2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface gently roll dough with a rolling pin or pat the dough out to a ½-inch thickness. Cut the dough into biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass.
Place biscuits on the parchment lined baking sheet or a large ungreased cast iron skillet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown. Enjoy!
Optional. Brush melted butter on the tops of the biscuits before serving.
Recipe Variations
While these easy biscuits are delicious as is, you can change the taste by adding a few ingredients to the biscuit dough.
If you want a cheddar cheese biscuit, add 1 cup of shredded cheese to the mixture before baking.
Make a sweet shortcake-style biscuits by adding 2 Tablespoons of sugar to the mixture before baking. Perfect to serve with homemade strawberry shortcake.
Pro Tip. Swap out the Greek yogurt for buttermilk or heavy whipping cream. All three will work with the self-rising flour.
Along with using this quick dough for making homemade biscuits, you can add this dough mixture on top of a fruit cobbler before baking. Just delicious.
Make Self-Rising Flour from All-Purpose Flour
If you happen to run out of self-rising flour or just don’t have access to it, here is a simple recipe to make your own self-rising flour using all-purpose flour and a few other pantry ingredients.
- 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 ½ Teaspoon Baking Powder
- ¼ Teaspoon Salt
Pro Tip. Carefully measure your flour by lightly spooning the flour in the measuring cup. You don’t want too much flour to baking powder ratio. Use a butter knife or other straight edge to run across the top of the measuring cup to remove any flour piled over the cup. When leveling the cup of flour, be careful not to compact it.
Additionally, make sure that your baking powder is fresh. Check the expiration date.
Storing Leftovers
These biscuits are best warm from the oven. You can refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Leave on the counter in a paper bag or other airtight container. Leftovers will freeze well.
To freeze individual biscuits, place on a single layer on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Freeze until solid. Remove from the baking tray and place in an airtight container or heavy duty freezer bag. They will stay fresh up to 4 months.
Thaw to room temperature before reheating in an oven, air fryer, or toaster oven. Reheat at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes, until warm to the touch.
