Easy and Quick Mini Crochet Triangle Scarf

Actually, the very first triangle scarf that I made was this mini scarf in the photo below. It is just perfect for a petite person or young girl. Often, I see shawls and triangle scarves that are perfect, but not the size for my petite daughter or a little girl.

I think that this cute scarf in fun colors is perfect for my first triangle scarf. I ran out of yarn though, or I think I would have added a fringe to this one to make it even more fun looking.

Directions: How to Crochet Easy Quick Beginner Triangle Scarf

Skill Level

Beginner Friendly

This is absolutely perfect for your first crochet scarf pattern. It is so easy to get started.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical, but I had 14 stitches per 4 inches.

Sizes

This mini scarf is 31 rows. Finished size is 14.5 inches from the middle tip to top. It is 32 inches wide at the top. The pattern is the same as the larger shawl shown – just less rows.

The larger shawl is 43 rows. Finished size is 42 inches from the middle tip to the top. It is 48 inches wide.

To change the size of either scarf, just keep adding rows to make it longer and wider. Decrease rows to make it narrower and shorter.

Fringe Size

The fringe is cut 7 inches long that ends up being 3.5 inches long folded in half.

2 1/4 Skeins of Caron Simply Soft Party Yarn Grape Sparkle. Approximately 388 yards. You can get that on Amazon if you are not able to purchase it locally.

1 Skein of Red Heart Soft Baby Steps in Giggle for the smaller colorful scarf. Approximately 200 yards.

Crochet Pattern Directions

Begin 

CH 4

Row 1: 

Insert your hook in the fourth CH from the hook and complete 3 DC. Turn

This completes row 1.

Row 2: 

CH 3 (Counts as DC) 2 DC in the same ST. CH 1, 3 DC in the top ST of the last DC of the first row. Turn (2, 3 DC clusters and 1 CH ST)

That is all there is to it for row 2.

Rows 3 and beyond: 

CH 3 (Counts as DC) 2 DC in the same ST. CH 1, SK to the first CH 1 SP and work 3 DC in the previous CH 1 SP. CH 1, SK to the las DC and work 3 DC in the last DC of the previous row. Turn (3, 3 DC clusters and 2 CH STs).

Make this Triangle Shawl as large as you would like it. Continue the stitch pattern in row three making sure to start each row with the CH 3 and 2 DC. Then completing the 3 DC for each CH 1 SP and ending with the 3 DC in the last DC ST of the previous row.

Here is How to Add the Fringe to the Crochet Scarf

The larger shawl is 43 rows. I have chosen not to have the fringe on the last 10 rows. Just because this part is close to the neck and may add too much bulk and bother to the person wearing it.

Therefore, I need fringe for 33 rows.
The fringe is cut 7 inches long that ends up being 3.5 inches long folded in half.

I am using 2 pieces of yarn for each section of fringe and in the front center, I have a section of fringe on the tip and one additional section of fringe on either side of the center tip. Therefore, I need to cut 66 pieces of fringe for each of the the sides and 6 pieces for the added sections at the tip for a total of 138 pieces of yarn. This uses approximately 30 yards of yarn.

I have added the yarn at the end of each row of crochet – If you choose to add more or less, you will need to adjust the number of yarn pieces that you need for this project.

Directions on The Fringe

Cutting the Yarn

I wrap the yarn around something that is sturdy and 7 inches long. For me, this happens to be my Ipad. I don’t have to cut out any cardboard or make any other special template. The Ipad works perfectly. Wrap the yarn for about half of the scarf at a time. Once the yarn is wrapped, you will need to cut the yarn on one end [making sure to hold the yarn securely]. Once one end is cut continue to hold securely and fold the yarn in half. Cut the folded end. You are now ready to begin adding the yarn to your scarf.

Adding the Fringe

Take 2 pieces of yarn at a time. Align them so they are even and fold them in half. Start at the end of a row on one of the sides, insert your crochet hook in a hole in the stitches from below. Wrap the folded half of the yarn around the crochet hook and pull it through the hole in the stitches.

Remove the crochet hook and use your fingers to reach through the loops of yarn that have been pulled through to grab the ends of the yarn that are still being held by your other hand. Pull those ends through the loop. Once the ends are pulled through, gently snug up the knot. Continue to work around the shawl adding the fringe.
