Learn How Easy it is to Make the Best Mimosa at Home

This beverage really could not be simpler, just a few basic ingredients in a pretty glass with some fruity garnishes makes for the perfect drink combination.

For best results make sure that you serve the drink cold. Therefore, chill the wine and orange juice the night before you plan to make mimosas. Then, the next morning just add the chilled ingredients and enjoy your cocktail.

Mimosa Ingredients

Mimosa Ingredients

Orange Juice. This really does taste best with freshly squeezed orange juice. However, there are some really great options in the grocery store.

White Soda, Sparkling Wine, or Champagne. Sparkling wine is what we use when we want the addition of alcohol. However, when we want to make a mocktail, we opt for the white soda such as lemon-lime.

Amaretto Liqueur. This is an almond flavor liqueur that is used as a flavoring base in many drink recipes.

Grenadine. This is made from pomegranate juice. We make our own as it just tastes so much better. It lasts for a few months in the refrigerator too. Make your own Grenadine Syrup ~ just delicious.

Fruit Garnish. Use cherries or orange slices as garnish. Any other fruit really works well too.  We are not fussy; it all works for us.

If you want this a little boozier add a shot glass of vodka, Grand Marnier, brandy or whiskey.

Choosing a Wine for the Perfect Mimosa

The Perfect Wine to Orange Juice Ratio in a Mimosa

We like to use equal parts of sparkling wine to orange juice. We feel it tastes the best. Some people like to use a dry sparkling wine; however, at our house, we like a bit sweeter wine.

A “brut” is a nice choice of champagne to use in this mimosa. As for a sparkling wine, we love a good Moscato, which can also come in various citrus flavor accents that will pair nicely with the orange juice.

A wine called “Cupcake Vineyards Prosecco D.O.C. is a great choice, we love to drink this all by itself too. It has a clean and refreshing taste.

Riesling and Lambrusco wines are a great choice for the mimosa as well.

Mimosa Variations

While we love the freshness of the combination of orange juice and sparkling wine, there are a few other variations that I have enjoyed through the years.

Add a splash of other fresh juices such as, grape, cranberry, pineapple, mango, or peach

Use a blood orange juice

Add a fresh fruit puree to the bottom of the glass

Make this more of an iced smoothie by using a blender and blending the drink ingredients with some crushed ice. Thick and refreshing drink. Make sure to provide a straw.

Mimosa Mocktails

Go ahead and swap out the wine for a lemon-lime soda, pineapple juice, or white grape juice. There are some carbonated water options that you may enjoy with this as well; however, we usually add the soda or the pineapple juice as it enhances the fruity flavors of this drink.

Amaretto Sunset Mimosa Cocktail Tips

Skip the pulp. No one really wants to have the pulp in their mimosa. Unless you plan on using the blender and blending the ingredients with crushed ice, it is best to skip the pulp.

Serve the cocktail in a pretty glass. If you have any champagne flutes or other pretty glasses, now is the time to use them. The taller glasses help keep the carbonation extra bubbly.

Chill the glasses. We recommend serving this as cold as possible. Therefore, if you can also chill the glasses, do so.

Mimosa cocktail options. Give your guests a few choices of fruit and mixers to pair with their orange juice. While you can make a big batch of mimosas, which we love, sometimes, it is fun to let guests personalize their own mimosa. Give them some options.
