Versatile Shawl Pattern

Make this in different colors, and various yarn weights, from fingering weight yarn, to worsted weight yarn. It would work with a thick yarn or even a gradient yarn.

As I worked on the video tutorial for the pattern instructions, I used a Caron Simply Soft in a solid color. I decided since I was to row 14 already making the tutorial, I should continue. Of course, I only had the half skein of yarn I was working with during the tutorial. So, I had to get more.

While the shawl has that classic triangle shape, I thought I would change the bottom of the pattern. This will give the solid color shawl a completely different look. I’ll be sharing that free pattern with you soon too.

Advanced Beginner Crochet Shawl

Every few rows, the stitch pattern changes. This crochet pattern uses the chain stitches, single crochet stitches, double crochet stitches, and ends with half double crochet stitches. Therefore, ad it uses a number of crochet stitches, all of which are easy, I placed this pattern at the advanced beginner level.

This crochet pattern is far from boring. Let the beauty of the yarn shine through using this simple pattern. While the basic crochet stitches themselves are quite easy to work, due to the placement of the crochet stitch changes throughout such as the front loop double crochet and back loop double crochet, I do place this as an intermediate level shawl.

However, an experienced crocheter will find this pattern quite easy to achieve.

Triangle Shawl Worked from the Top Down

Crochet Triangle Shawl Worked from the Top Down

The lacy shawl is worked from the top down, so it’s easy to adjust the size to fit your needs. Just crochet until the triangle is as large as you prefer. The lightweight stitch pattern makes it perfect for any occasion.

This shawl is relatively easy to crochet and works up quickly, making it the perfect project for a quick crochet gift or project for yourself. I made this one in a week crocheting as I had time.

Double crochet stitches always make crochet patterns a quick make and this is one of them.

Materials

White Cotton Kings 8/4, in color number 01. 2 Skeins 186 yards each or 372 yards total.

Grey Cotton Kings 8/4, in color number 05. 1 skein 186 yards. See note below.

Light Blue Cotton Kings 8/4, in color number 17. 1 skein 186 yards. See note below.

Yarn Notes:

The yarn is a Fingering, Sock weight yarn.

I barely made it with just one skein for the Grey and White yarn. If you are a loose crocheter or use a larger size crochet hook, you might want to get 2 skeins of those.

You can purchase the yarn at Hobbi.

Pattern Notes

Pattern is written in US terms.

This pattern begins with a chain 4 and a slip stitch into the furthest chain from the hook to form a circle to work the first row in. However, you could use a magic circle to start this pattern. I have a magic circle tutorial to help you if you choose to start your shawl this way.

Turn at the end of each row.

The CH 3 at the beginning of the rows counts as a double crochet.

Triangular Shawl Pattern is worked from the top down.

You don’t really have to count the stitches in each row. I have the stitch count indicated in case you want to double check that your row stitches are on track.
