Crocheting with Thread-Like Yarn
For years, I was a bit nervous to try using the fine yarn for crochet projects. However, there are just so many gorgeous yarns available now. I had purchased several cakes of yarn in different colors a few months ago.
They were nicely stored in my yarn stash and I would revel in their beauty each time that I went through my yarn looking for the perfect color and yarn weight for my next project.
Crocheting with Fine Yarn
Then one day, I took a chance and started using the thread-like yarn. I started with an easy stitch pattern. This “beginner” triangle shawl was the result of that first pretty cake of yarn. I love how it turned out and it was so easy to do.
It gave me the confidence to continue creating new patterns for each one of the beautiful skeins of yarn that was in my stash.
If you are interested in some of the other one-skein yarn projects I have made, you can find them here.
Semi-Circle Shawl Design
This ombre crescent moon shawl is another beauty. Rather than being a triangle or asymmetrical shawl as I have done in the past, it worked in a semi-circular design. The colors along with the flowy drape make this shawl look very classy.
This is worked from the top down. The size of the shawl increased with each row added. I used a chain 4 and joined with a slip stitch to form the initial circle. then the first row of stitches are worked inside that circle.
While this could be worn at a wedding as an accessory, it also looks perfect with your favorite pair of jeans.
Customize the Shawl Size
This is an easy crochet pattern grows by eight stitches with each round. Today, I used a large yarn cake that has 1,093 yards. This makes for a sizeable shawl. However, if you want a smaller one, just stop when it is the size you desire.
I kept going until I was not able to make a full row with the yarn that I had. While this is a large shawl, it is so light weight that it can be wrapped and styled to just about any size that you want. This is a very versatile accessory for your wardrobe.
Yarn for This Crochet Pattern
Today, I used one skein of yarn from Hobbi. It is called Twister and has 1,093 yards of thread-like number 2 yarn. The color is called number 29. If you are not able to find this exact yarn where you are, this can be made with any similar yarn.
If you would prefer to make this with a medium weight yarn, that can also be done, I would just us the crochet hook size noted on the yarn package that you have. Additionally, plan on using 700-1,000 yards of yarn. The sizing will be different than mine, but I bet you will end up with a lovely shawl too.
Crochet Video Tutorial and Chart for Stitch Counts
Below the written pattern, I have provided links for a video tutorial on how to work this crochet pattern. Additionally, there is a chart outlining the stitch counts for each row. It is an easy way to track and mark your rows too.
There are close-up photos of the first four rows by the written directions.

Ombre Crescent Moon Shawl Row and Stitch Count Chart
Sometimes, I like to use a chart like this to mark off the rows as I complete them. While you would not have to count the stitches in every row, periodically, it is a good idea to count them to make sure that a stitch has not been added or subtracted along the way.
