Sedona Desert Blanket Pattern

This Sedona Desert blanket pattern reminds me of the exotic looks of the wilderness. The colors remind me of the red clay colors rocks, bubbling brooks, and wildflower colors peppered throughout. It is just an awe-inspiring vision, and this crochet blanket is just perfect for snuggling up under while star gazing on a chilly night.

Reversable Blanket Pattern

This pattern uses the Catherine’s Wheel Stitch, which looks the same on the front and back. The crochet stitch creates rows of larger alternating circles, which creates a unique design with lots of gorgeous texture.

Sedona Desert Blanket Pattern

Catherine’s Wheel Crochet Stitch

The main stitches used in this crochet blanket are the easy double crochet and single crochet. The hardest part is learning how to work a double crochet decrease and double crochet increase.

However, not to worry, there is a Catherine’s Wheel Crochet Tutorial to help you out.

Soft Cotton Yarn

This Sedona Desert crochet pattern uses Lion Brand Coboo Yarn. When crocheting with this yarn, I noticed that the strands of the yarn split apart quite easily. So, I had to pay attention to make sure that I had all the strands on the hook with each stitch. Other than that, this is a very soft cotton yarn. The blanket has a wonderful soft, and luxurious feel to it.

Crochet Blanket Pattern _ Carry the Yarn up the Side!

Carry the Yarn up the Side

In this crochet blanket pattern, I carried the yarn up the side rather than cut off the yarn ends each time I was joining a new color. However, I did not carry the yarn through the back of my work as I crochet each row.

As you change the yarn color, at the beginning of every other row, just bring the new yarn color through the last loop. Then let the color for the row you just finished drop and hang. continue repeating this process every other row.

When bringing the colors up the side, just make sure that the yarn is not too snug or too loose as you carry it up the side. This way when adding the border the yarn that is being carried up the side it covers up the yarn nicely for a polished look.

Pattern Notes

The Catherin’s Wheel Stitch consists of a four-row repeat. Double crochet half circles are worked using decreases and increases. Decreases in crochet are crocheting more than one stitch together.  Increases in crochet are working more than one stitch inside another stitch.

This crochet stitch is worked using multiples of 10 + 7. This means that the beginning chain is a multiple of 10, plus 7. My sample blanket was 147 stitches. Here is the math 10 X 14 = 140 + 7 = 147.

Turn at the end of each row.

Change colors as desired. However, to showcase the wheel shape, patterns are often changing color every other row or at least after the top of the wheel row is complete.

I carried my yarn up the side since I was adding a crochet border. This covers up the yarn that is carried up the side nicely and it saves a lot of time.

Color Chart and Repeating Row. There is a row repeat and color chart below the crochet pattern.
