Family Favorite Pork Chops or Pork Steak

This recipe works for Pork steak or Pork chops. They are undeniably versatile when it comes to main courses, and this recipe exemplifies just that. Rather than opting for the traditional hearty mushroom or vegetable topping, these succulent pork chops are paired with a delightful homemade mango chutney, adding a sweet and tangy twist to this classic dish.

Choose the Right Cut: Opt for pork steaks that are well-marbled with a layer of fat. This fat will render during cooking, keeping the meat juicy and flavorful.

Few Ingredient Flavorful Meal

The mango chutney and Lawry’s Season salt are the only seasonings used to show off this meat. This chutney from Stonewall Kitchen is so full of flavor and fruits compliment pork so nicely. Just the perfect combination.

While you can make your own, store-bought mango chutney from the grocery store cuts down on prep time. Bonus it adds a wonderful mango glaze as this bakes in the oven.

It is amazing how much flavor these chutney ingredients adds to so many dishes. Liven up the dinner table with easy recipes. If you are looking for a recipe to make in the summer on the grill, give this Steak and Mango Salsa Flatbread a try.

Quick Home Cooked Meal in Minutes. Take a few minutes to lightly brown the pork steaks, season pork chops with a little bit of seasoned salt, spread on the chutney and bake. While this is baking, make the rest of your meal.

Sear for Color and Flavor: Start by searing the pork steaks in a hot skillet or grill pan. This will create a flavorful crust on the outside of the meat while sealing in the juices.

Cook to the Right Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the pork steaks are cooked to the proper internal temperature. Pork should be cooked to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for medium-rare and 160°F (71°C) for medium, with a 3-minute rest time after removal from the heat source.

Cast Iron Skillet Cooking

I have a large 12 inch cast iron skillet that I use quite often. It holds 4 pork steaks at a time to brown. These skillets go from the stove top to the oven without worry of breakage. They are so easy to maintain too.

Pair with Complementary Sides: Serve the pork steaks with sides that complement the flavors of the mango chutney, such as steamed rice, roasted vegetables, or a simple side salad.

  • Spray 9 X 13 baking pan with cooking oil spray so the meat does not stick. Once the first 4 pork steaks are browned, layer them in the pan. While the next 4 pork steaks are browning in the pan, spread 1 Tablespoon of Mango Chutney on each steak.
    1 Jar Mango Chutney

  • When the next 4 are browned, layer those in the pan and spread with 1 Tablespoon of Mango Chutney. If you have a small jar like I did, scrape out the jar and add it all.

Prefer to Make Your Own Mango Chutney?

Here’s a simple recipe to make about a cup of mango chutney. It’s a great recipe that works with so many different dishes as a main course like this, as a condiment to dip your appetizers, spread on toast, or top your ice cream with some.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the diced mango, onion, white vinegar, brown sugar, grated ginger, ground cumin, ground coriander, and chili powder.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. Once the mixture starts simmering, reduce the heat to low and let it cook gently for about 20-25 minutes, or until the mango becomes soft and the chutney thickens to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  4. Taste the chutney and adjust the sweetness, acidity, and spiciness according to your preference by adding more sugar, vinegar, or chili powder if needed. Season with salt to taste.
  5. Once the chutney reaches your desired consistency and flavor, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  6. Transfer the mango chutney to a clean, airtight jar or container and let it cool completely before serving. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.

This homemade mango chutney will add a deliciously sweet and tangy flavor to your pork steak dish, enhancing its overall taste. Adjust the ingredients and spices according to your taste preferences for a personalized touch.
