What are the Best Crochet Stitches for Shawls?
Many easy shawls use only basic crochet stitches such as single crochet stitch, half double crochet stitch, and double crochet stitches.
Using these main stitches in certain combinations can create some lovely designs, without being complicated or difficult to crochet. Rectangular shawls like this beautiful shawl are stunning. Yet, it uses basic stitches.
Yarn for Rectangular Crochet Shawls
Rectangle crochet shawls are versatile, allowing you to use a wide range of yarn types, including wool, acrylic, cotton, or blends. Worsted weight yarn in wool and acrylic yarn blends are ideal for fall and winter shawls, providing warmth and coziness. On the other hand, lightweight yarn such as a cotton or cotton blend are perfect for a spring and summer shawl. They offer a lightweight and breathable option.
Both a solid color and gradient color such as a cake yarn would work well with this crochet project.
Versatile Fashion Accessory
This easy crochet pattern is the perfect accessory as it can be worn in so many ways. Wear it as an everyday wrap with your favorite pair of jeans. Dress up for the evening for special occasions. Top off your look with this lacy wrap.

How to Wear Crochet Wrap Patterns?
No matter which way you choose to use this beautiful Misty’s Lacy Wrap is sure to quickly become one of your go-to style pieces in your wardrobe.
Classic Drape
- Simply drape the wrap over your shoulders, letting it hang loosely around your arms. This is a relaxed and elegant way to showcase the wrap’s full design.
Over the Shoulder
- Drape the wrap over one shoulder and let the ends hang down. This asymmetrical style adds a touch of sophistication and can be secured with a brooch or shawl pin for added flair.
As a Scarf
- Fold the wrap lengthwise and wrap it around your neck like a scarf. This style adds warmth and is perfect for cooler weather. You can let the ends hang loosely or tuck them in for a more polished look.
Belted Wrap
- Drape the wrap over your shoulders and cinch it at the waist with a belt. This creates a chic, fitted look and can be paired with dresses or blouses for a stylish outfit.
Looped Around the Neck
- Wrap the shawl around your neck multiple times for a cozy, bundled look. This is great for added warmth and can be adjusted to suit your comfort level.
Shawl Style
- Place the wrap around your shoulders and pull one end over the opposite shoulder, allowing the other end to drape in front. This classic style is perfect for formal events or adding a touch of elegance to any outfit.
As a Headscarf
- Fold the wrap into a triangle and tie it around your head, either as a bandana or with the knot at the back of your neck. This bohemian style is great for casual days and can also protect your hair from the sun.
Poncho Style
- Place the wrap over your shoulders and secure the ends at your front with a pin or knot. This style gives the appearance of a poncho and is comfortable for layering.
Cocoon Wrap
- Place the wrap around your back and pull the ends over your shoulders, then cross them at the front and bring them back around to tie behind your back. This creates a snug, cocoon-like fit.
Rectangular wraps are often used as prayer shawls. I crocheted one for myself when I needed it. The Victoria Lacy Shawl Crochet Pattern is still a quite popular pattern yet today. It’s the perfect project if you know of anyone that needs a bit extra love right now.
