Why Super Bulky Yarn?
One of the secrets to completing this blanket in record time is the use of super bulky yarn. As the name suggests, this yarn is thicker and heavier than traditional options, allowing you to cover more ground with each stitch.
Not only does it make your project progress rapidly, but it also creates a sumptuous texture and offers unparalleled warmth and squish. Plus, working with super bulky yarn is incredibly satisfying. It practically flies off your hook, giving you a tangible sense of accomplishment with every row completed.
Get comfortable, and let’s dive into the world of super bulky crochet to create a stunning and indulgent blanket that will be cherished for years to come.
Chunky Throw Blanket Size
The finished size of this free pattern is 37 inches wide X 52 inches long, which is a perfect size to cover me from my waist down. It is thick, soft, fluffy, and warm.
This is a larger size, if using for a baby blanket, it would be nice to sit the baby on when they are starting to sit upright and learning to crawl. However, it is a nice cozy throw for a toddler to snuggle with on the sofa or in their bed.
Make a different size of this blanket. Easily change the size using the gauge and multiples of 3 for the beginning chain stitches.
Working with Bulky Weight Yarn
While this is the best yarn to work with for a bulky yarn as it doesn’t slip, it also makes it hard to glide through your fingers.
How I Hold My yarn. I normally wrap the yarn one time around my pinky and then lay a loop on top of my index finger. However, this yarn gets stuck.
Therefore, I changed how I hold my yarn. Rather than loop it over my pinky, I gently hold it in the pam of my hand and just loop it over my index finger.
So, you may have to slightly change how you hold your yarn too. But it was no problem once I found a method that worked for me.
