Tartar sauce that can be purchased in the store is okay. However, our family loves this simple sauce mix. It is our favorite.

Enjoy this condiment with your favorite crispy fish.

Just Three Ingredients to Make this Quick Tartar Sauce

Make this classic sauce in just minutes.

We never had to worry about running out of this sauce on a Friday night when we served hundreds of fish fry dinners. The ingredients to make it were always within reach in the refrigerator.

Make This Condiment in Minutes

It takes just a few minutes to make this creamy goodness. Add the ingredients to a bowl and mix. While the flavors do mix a bit more if it is made at least 30 minutes ahead of time and refrigerated, it is delicious when just made too.

While we used a Miracle Whip base for our tartar sauce and I do at home, you can swap the Miracle Whip for Mayonnaise or yogurt. It will give a slightly different taste. However, I encourage you to try and make the recipe exactly right for your needs.

Crispy Beer Battered Fish at Home

Just like you would get at your local restaurant or pub. This fish is easy to make and just delicious when paired with this condiment. The batter for the fish is just two ingredients. So Scrumptious!

This Tartar Sauce Can be Used for More Than Fish

This easy homemade tartar sauce will last about a week when stored in the refrigerator. Use this as a sandwich spread throughout the week. It is good to use as a dip for French Fries. Just delicious. If you have not tried this combination, I encourage you to give it a go.

Recipe Variations

Our family enjoys this recipe with just the three ingredients; however, we have some that like dill pickle relish and some that like sweet pickle relish. So, I must make it both ways if I wans to please everyone.

There are other recipes that call for additional ingredients, such as

  • Fresh Parsley chopped
  • Fresh Dill chopped
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Sugar

Substitution for Pickle Relish

If you do not have any pickle relish on hand, you can mince pickles and use a bit of the juice for the right consistency. Use your preferred pickle; dill, bread and butter, or sweet pickles can be used for this recipe.

At home, this has happened to me a few times. Of course, I always find out I did not have the pickle relish when the beer battered fish was done and ready to be served. No worries, I usually have pickles on hand. It still goes together quickly.

Instructions

  • Stir the mayonnaise, relish, and lemon juice together in a bowl.
  • If you have time, it is nice to let the sauce sit in the refrigerator 30 minutes before using. The flavors seems to meld together a bit better. However, often, I make this and serve it right away.
