What makes it so beginner-friendly, you wonder?

It’s all about repetition and simplicity. This simple pattern uses basic crochet stitches. The Granny Stitch is essentially a series of clusters and chains that create a lovely, openwork pattern.

If you can make granny squares, I’m sure you can master granny triangles. This crochet triangle shawl pattern comes with a photo and video tutorial.

Yarn for Scarf

The yarn is a number 1 super fine variegated yarn cake. I love it because the color change throughout just happens as you continue working on your project.

When using thread yarn, the result is a lightweight shawl. However, this can be made in different yarn weights from fingering weight yarn to worsted weight yarn. Note, it will change the size of the shawl and the texture, drape, and feel.

This is one of those crochet classics. Make this in a solid color or different colors for a scrappy granny shawl.

Granny Stitch Cluster

The beauty of this crochet pattern is the beauty of simplicity, and the Granny Stitch. Using just one skein of yarn, this scarf pattern is worked from the top down using the granny stitch cluster. It’s a timeless crochet stitch and just perfect for beginners.

This was a quick Picture this: You, a cup of coffee or tea, and a ball of yarn. Now add the rhythmic motion of your crochet hook creating a lovely fabric that’s not just warm but woven with a sense of accomplishment. That’s the Granny Stitch Triangle Christmas Scarf magic right there.

Pattern Notes

While I used one skein of ombre yarn. It is nice to have just two ends to weave in. However, you can use various yarn colors for a truly unique shawl.

Turn your work after each row.

The chain 3 at the beginning of each row counts as a double crochet.

You will always start with the CH 3, 2 DC in the same ST and end with 3 DC in the last ST.

This pattern comes with a photo and video tutorial.

This pattern is written in US Terms.

When beginning this pattern, you can use the method outlined in the directions, or use the magic circle. Since I chose to use the thread yarn, using the Chain 4 and joining with a slip stitch method to create your beginning circle seemed to provide more stability.

First Few Rows of Beginner Scarf

Begin

CH 4 join with ST ST.

Row 1

The row 1 stitches are worked inside the circle. CH 3 (Counts as a DC) 2 DC, CH 1, 3 DC. CH 3. 3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC. Turn

Row 2

Ch 3 (Counts as DC). Work 2 DC in the same ST. CH 1 SK to the CH 1 SP of the previous row work 3 DC, CH 1 skip to the CH 3 SP work (3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC, CH 1). Skip to CH 1 SP work 3 DC, CH 1. SK to the last ST work 3 DC. Turn

Row 3 through 41

To continue adding rows, it is a second row repeat. As you repeat row 2. Keep working the 3 DC and CH 1 in each CH 1 SP. The starting, ending, and middle stitches remain the same.

Finishing

Cut a long tail of yarn about 12-inches. Pull through the last loop. Using your yarn needle, weave in the loose ends 3 to 6 times to secure. Snip off excess yarn.
