Make this recipe with Ranch or Italian Seasoning

Time Tested Mushroom Recipe

I had been making savory slow cooker mushrooms for well over 20 years and I quickly rattled off the recipe that I made. Well, she tried the recipe from Face Book and it was not very good. WAY too much butter and seasoning for the amount of mushrooms.

We had a mushroom cook-off

My daughter wasn’t giving up on the new mushroom recipe.

She still wanted to try making the recipe. I told her my recipe and she used a packet of ranch dressing mix powder instead of the Italian dressing seasoning I use. Here are some photos of the results.

Mushroom Serving Suggestions

Serving a large crowd

Leave the mushrooms right in the slow cooker to stay warm. Let the guests serve themselves as an appetizer or side dish.

Serving with a meal

Serve the buttery and savory sauce with the mushrooms over a steak or chicken. What a great sauce to compliment the meat.

Turn this mushroom side dish into a meal

I have also used the savory mushrooms added to pasta with cut up chicken, pork, or steak cut up. Very tasty all by itself.

Types of Mushrooms for this Recipe

Today, the photos show that we used Portobello Mushrooms. Quite often, we use the White Button Mushrooms that are commonly found in the local grocery store. Another Option; the Cremini Mushroom, which is a baby bella Mushroom. Porcini mushrooms are another option.

You can use them whole or sliced.

Instructions

  • Clean the mushrooms using a damp paper towel or mushroom brush to remove any dirt.
  • Turn the crockpot on low. Add the butter and either the italian or ranch seasoning packet. Add the mushrooms – they can be sliced or kept whole.
1 stick butter, 1 package italian or ranch seasoning, 24 oz. mushrooms

Fresh Mushrooms

Benefits of Mushrooms

Mushrooms are high in fiber and vitamins. They are low in fat and cholesterol-free too. With the versatility of this little gem, they are popular throughout the world. There are so many great varieties available, I hope that you take the time to explore them all.

Make this perfect side dish on the stove top

If you’re in a hurry to get this easy mushroom recipe made, you can definitely adapt the slow cooker recipe to make it on the stovetop instead of using a slow cooker. Here’s how.

Ingredients:

  • 24 ounces of fresh mushrooms
  • 1 stick of butter (or ½ cup of butter)
  • 1 packet of ranch seasoning or Italian seasoning mix

Instructions:

  1. Clean the mushrooms using a damp paper towel or mushroom brush to remove any dirt.
  2. In a large skillet or frying pan, melt the stick of butter over medium low heat.
  3. Add the cleaned mushrooms to the melted butter, ensuring they are in a single layer. When frying in a skillet, I find it’s a bit harder to cook whole mushrooms. I generally will slice them for frying in a skillet.
  4. Sprinkle the packet of ranch or Italian seasoning mix evenly over the mushrooms.
  5. Cook the mushrooms, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes or until they are tender and infused with flavor.

Recipe Tips:

  • Make sure to use a large enough skillet or pan to accommodate all the mushrooms in a single layer. Overcrowding the pan can lead to uneven cooking.
  • Adjust the cooking time as needed, depending on the size and variety of mushrooms you’re using. Thicker mushrooms may require a bit longer to cook.
  • Feel free to add additional seasonings or herbs to customize the flavor to your liking. Sometimes I like to sprinkle fresh parsley on top of the mushrooms just before serving. Or add a tablespoon or two of garlic for delicious garlic butter mushrooms.

With these simple adjustments, you can easily recreate the delicious Savory Steakhouse Mushrooms on the stovetop for a quick and flavorful side dish.

What is the best way to clean the mushrooms?

Cleaning mushrooms is a crucial step to ensure they’re free from dirt and debris while preserving their delicate texture. Here’s the best way to clean mushrooms:

  1. Use a Damp Paper Towel: Gently wipe each mushroom with a damp paper towel or cloth to remove any visible dirt or debris. This method is effective for lightly soiled mushrooms and helps prevent them from becoming waterlogged, which can affect their texture during cooking.
  2. Mushroom Brush: Alternatively, you can use a specialized mushroom brush with soft bristles to gently brush away any dirt. This method is particularly useful for delicate mushrooms like morel or chanterelle, where you want to avoid damaging their fragile surfaces.
  3. Avoid Soaking: Avoid soaking mushrooms in water or rinsing them under running water, as they act like sponges and can absorb excess moisture, leading to a soggy texture when cooked.
  4. Trim Stems if Necessary: If the stems of the mushrooms are tough or discolored, you can trim them slightly with a sharp knife. However, it’s generally best to leave the stems intact, as they contribute to the mushroom’s overall flavor and texture.

The next time you’re making a steak at home or hosting a party, make sure this is on menu as one of side dishes. It’s so easy with delicious results.

How to store leftover cooked mushrooms?

Once cooled, transfer the leftover Savory Steakhouse Slow Cooker Mushrooms to an airtight container or resealable bag, removing excess air before sealing. Refrigerate promptly for up to 3-4 days, making sure to label with the date. When ready to eat, gently reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave until warmed through. Enjoy as a tasty side dish or topping.
