No matter, he was very happy.

Easy Cooking ~ Perfect Recipe for Kids

Having child-friendly recipes to help your youngster get started in the kitchen make for fun bonding time. When my daughter was growing up, she loved to help me in the kitchen and a recipe like this is perfect. She enjoyed the eating part too and was so proud to be able to proclaim that she made them!

All you do is take mini cocktail wieners with crescent rolls. Wrap the dough around the wieners, place on a baking sheet and bake. It is so easy and the results are yummy.

If you like yours a bit sweet, roll the crescent dough in a bit of brown sugar first, for me, it takes this to a whole new level of flavor.

I have used cocktail wieners, little smokies, regular hot dogs cut in half, herby chicken sausage, spicy sausages, or breakfast sausages. Each option has a unique flavor. When I am entertaining, I sometimes will use a variety of meat as the filling. Meat appetizers are a great way to have your guest feeling full on a few bites.

This recipe uses crescent roll dough; however, if you happen to have biscuit dough or puff pastry, they would work really well too. If I were to use puff pastry, I would brush a bit of melted butter on top for even more flavor.

What Dipping Sauce to Serve with This Quick Appetizer?

Serve this snack with a side of Ketchup – perfect for dipping. Mustard is a must have option as the ketchup and mustard just seem to go together with this hearty appetizer.

When entertaining, I will have at least 3 or 4 dipping sauce options for my guests to serve themselves.

Prepare These Crescent Dogs Ahead of Time

It is so easy to make this ahead of time. Just get the got dogs wrapped in the dough and place on a cookie sheet. cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until you are ready to heat in the oven. I will do this the night before or a few hours before.

Bake these for 12-15 minutes and serve to your family or guests with the insides hot and the outside crisp and crunchy. However, once made, these can be left out at room temperature safely for 1-2 hours. So, they are an easy recipe and the perfect party snack for people that like to graze.

How Long Will Pigs in a Blanket Keep?

As long as they are stored in an airtight container, they are safe to eat up to 5 days. However, if you have already had the appetizers sitting out for your guests, then they should be used within 3 days.

Pigs in a blanket is an old recipe from my childhood. Hot dogs are perfect in this recipe. Make this snack for your next game day party.

  • 1 Container Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls
  • 1 Package Hot Dogs


  • Prepare a baking sheet by spraying it lightly with oil. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Cut the hot dogs in half. There are 10 Crescent Rolls in the container. This way, there is a 1/2 a hot dog for each triangle.
  • Open the container of Crescent Rolls and pull apart the perforated triangles. Place on the baking sheet.

  • Place a 1/2 a hot dog in each Crescent Roll triangle. Roll up the Crescent Roll around the hot dog starting with the wider end.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes. Until the rolls are golden brown.

Your Own Private Notes


If you make this with mini hot dogs, but the crescent roll dough in half lengthwise and use that to wrap around the mini dogs. You will get 20 appetizers.
